All Queer Shakespeare is the brainchild of Shakespeare’s Globe Theater-Trained Actor, Monica Sampson.

Sampson, a plus-size, queer, Jewish woman, recognized that the foundational elements of Shakespeare were written to engage all types of people, regardless of class, gender, or social status, to come and spend an afternoon enveloped by theater.

Shakespeare wrote for a very diverse audience, writing about human experiences; poop jokes, prostitutes, and Parliament.

In contrast, Sampson discovered throughout her works on stage, that she and other queer folks were often left out of telling stories with queer origins and elements. High class, and low brow, stories about people’s real experiences.

Shakespeare's works were made for the people, and yet Sampson saw a lack of the people in her own life represented on stage. Sampson believed a great theater had to be created, one that had Drag Queens and Kings, people of all shapes, sizes, and colors playing love interests, heroes, and villains.

All Queer Shakespeare was born as a diverse and inclusive theater.
